This Land
Is Worth
Defending.
Big Sky Fire Defense was built by someone who lives here, works here, and has spent 29 years understanding what it takes to build something worth protecting. We're based in Philipsburg, Montana — not a corporate office, not a call center. Right here.
Benton Rooks.
Built This.
I grew up learning how things are made and how they fail. I started in the trades at 18 — journeyman electrical work in Atlanta, then carpentry, then directional drilling on natural gas rigs in Wyoming. I didn't come from money or connections. I came from jobsites.
Over the next two and a half decades I founded a design-build remodeling firm in the Carolinas — hundreds of projects, work alongside architects and engineers that most tradespeople never get close to. I also ran a high-volume roofing company and got recognized in Professional Remodeling Magazine's Top 40 Under 40. Then I moved to Montana.
29 years in construction — starting on the tools, then building and running the businesses. I know how structures go up, and I've seen how they're lost.
Montana changed the way I think about what we build and why. When you live in the Wildland-Urban Interface — when the smoke is real and the risk is close — wildfire protection stops being abstract. It becomes personal. I've also done independent adjusting work in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho, which put me inside homes after total loss. That experience sits with me every time I talk to a client about what they're risking.

CitroTech Certified Installer
Preparation
Works.
Reaction Doesn't.
I've seen homes where the fire stopped ten feet from the front door and homes where nothing was left but the foundation. The difference was rarely luck. It was preparation. Defensible space. Mitigation that happened before the fire, not during it.
When I learned about CitroTech — the science, the certifications, the EPA recognition — I recognized what it represented. Not another product claiming to help. The first genuinely different category of protection the wildfire industry has seen in decades.
I became Montana's certified installer because I believe in what it does. I'm not interested in selling something I don't believe works.
I Live Here.
This Is
Personal.
Philipsburg sits in Granite County — one of the most beautiful and most fire-exposed areas in western Montana. I chose to be here. I built here. I work here. The mountains I climb and ski in the same terrain where I install wildfire defense systems.
That's not a marketing line. It means I have a stake in this that goes beyond the business. When fire threatens this part of Montana, it threatens my home too. That's the kind of alignment you want from the person protecting yours.
Big Sky Fire Defense exists because preparation works and reaction doesn't. We bring the best wildfire defense technology available to the people and places that need it most — with the experience, credentials, and local knowledge to do it right.
